The inhabitants of the commune also fought in the regiments of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy on the fronts of World War I.
During World War I, 1914–1918, soldiers from the Gręboszów commune fought on the fronts in various regiments of the Habsburg monarchy, alongside those who joined the Polish Legions under the command of Józef Piłsudski.
Galicia was part of Austria-Hungary; conscription and assignments to the army concerned young men from the villages and towns of the Sandomierz Valley. The fate of these soldiers — on the Eastern, Italian or Balkan fronts — often remains recorded only in the memory of families and parish books.
