History of the parish and the temple
The parish has existed since the 13th century (first mentioned in 1326); the wooden church, described by Jan Długosz, stood here until 1635. The present brick church was erected in 1650 from the foundation of Franciszek Dembiński of the Rawicz coat of arms — the voivode of Krakow and the starost of Bochnia; it was consecrated in 1675 by Bishop Mikołaj Oborski. In the nineteenth century, Józef and Zofia Załuski expanded the church to a three-nave form (1863–1875). In 1915, the war destroyed the roofs, the tower's cupola and some of the equipment — the temple was rebuilt after the end of the activities.
Architecture
The church is Baroque, made of brick and stone, a three-nave basilica church with a tower from the north and a porch from the west. The interior is covered with barrel vaults; at the entrances, three marble portals have been preserved, m.in. with the Rawicz coat of arms and the date 1861. From the east, there is a Baroque gate in the wall surrounding the church; from the west, a neo-Baroque gate from the beginning of the twentieth century.
Equipment
stained glass windows after 1920 from the Cracow company of the Żeleński family; five neo-baroque altars from the second half of the nineteenth or the beginning of the twentieth century. In the main altar there is a painting of Our Lady of the Snows (17th century, local cult). The 16-voice organ was built by the Rieger-Jaegerndorf company in 1926. The "Wojciech" bell was founded by Fr. Henryk Otowski in 1864 (cf. Okruszyny z Gremboszów, 1911; portrait of the parish priest from 1892). Baptismal font and lawaterz made of black marble (second half of the 17th century, lawaterz with the Jastrzębiec coat of arms). In the northern nave, the sarcophagus of General Józef Załuski (Ludwik Otowski, ca. 1875). In the courtyard, the monument of John Paul II (Czesław Dźwigaj, 2002); in front of the church, the statue of St. Anne on a column (1866).
