Arrest of General Langiewicz in the Jesuit Mouth (1863)

After the January Uprising, refugees from the Kingdom passed through the customs chamber in the Jesuit Mouth — the dictator of the uprising, General Marian Langiewicz, was arrested here.
During the November Uprising (1830–1831), food and weapons were smuggled from Galicia to the Kingdom of Poland through the commune. During the January Uprising (1863), fugitives passed through the customs chamber in the Jesuit Mouth — m.in, the insurgent dictator General Marian Langiewicz (elected in March 1863, arrested after the defeat of the uprising) was arrested here.
The mouth was located on an important communication route from Tarnów through Gręboszów to Opatowiec and the crossing over the Vistula — hence the strategic importance of the border and customs point in the history of uprisings. In 1944, dramatic war events took place in the area (pacification of Opatowiec and Ujście) — described in a separate room card.
