Roman denarii found in Gręboszów (1897)
Added to the collection:
Four coins from the 1st–2nd centuries AD — a trace of trade along the Amber Route in the commune.
In 1897, four Roman denarii were discovered in Gręboszów — a trace of trade contacts during the period of Roman influence (I–II centuries AD), when the Amber Route connected the Baltic Sea with the Mediterranean Sea.
According to the commune's study, the coins included m.in:
- Domitian (88 CE) — obverse: head in laurel wreath; reverse: Pallas Athena with shield and
a spear, an owl underneath;
- Antoninus Pius (155 AD);
- Faustina I (after 141 CE, after the death of the empress);
- the fourth coin is illegible (erased).
