On the eightieth anniversary of the fighting on the Opatowiec-Nowy Korczyn line, a monument to Józef Piłsudski was unveiled on the Vistula River near Opatowiec, commemorating the actions of the 1. Infantry Regiment of the Polish Legions in September 1914.
Opatowiec is located at one of the main crossings over the Vistula River — a strategic point of defense, for which legionnaires deployed in the Gręboszów commune also fought. The monument combines local memory with the broader context of the revival of the Polish Army.
